Current Adoptions & Rescue
Last Modified: 10/28/08
Every now and again I have an abandoned, rescue, or "needs a new home" Shih Tzu and other small breed dogs available for adoption. Not all these dogs are abused, but need a new home (owner died, overwhelmed, too many dogs, fighting, retired breeder, stray, seized, etc).
If you know a Shih Tzu or other small breed dog who needs a home please notify me for a posting here. If you are houseing the dog you may set an adoption fee; please be reasonable. If you cannot keep the dog yourself please tell me, but you must release the dog to me permanently, I will not allow you to set an adoption fee.
Beware I am happy to help in anyway I can, but if you release a dog into my care and wish to have the dog returned to you at any time before it finds a home, I will charge a sitting fee for watching your dog.

Gizmo Lhasa Apso/mix? 10 years old Adoption Fee: Free |
![]() |
Gizmo is a 10 yr old Lhasa Apso, possible mix, and is a special dog. I have reason to believe that he was heavily abused in the past, though the person who brought him to me says he was loved. His good points first! He is a very well behaved dog. He treats other dogs and puppies well and is very well mannered upon meeting other dogs in the street. He is good with cats, generally ignores mine, and does not chase after wild animals, at least not with me he hasn't. He is leash, house and potty trained to perfection. He happily lets you know when he needs to go out by rubbing against you, pawing at you or just plain being all over you about it. He rarely barks and does not jump on people or furniture. Gizmo loves to be outside and loves to walk, but lso loves his indoor freedom. Despite his age, he is very healthy and has a very good amount of energy. He had his rabies in 2007 and will need his yearly at the end of this year. He has not been neutered.
Okay, now the effects of his past. He is not good with children. He is good with mine, but they know to leave him be and that he will get mean if they bother him when he wants to be alone. He does allow them to clip a leash to his collar for walks and happily allows them to feed and give him water. They have been able to pet him occassionally, but my children have been well trained. He is so much better with adults, particularly older adults. Gizmo hates to be picked up or held. He really warns you that he does not like it. He is also a growler. He growls not only to warn, but just to talk. When he tells me he needs to go out he will growl back at me while I talk to him and get him his leash, so it tends to worry people. He hates his back to be touched and will bite if he is approached without his permission or backed into a corner. It takes him some time to get used to people. In the month that I have had him, he has really improved. I have been able to give him a good petting once in awhile. He now follows me all over the place and his tail is almost always up and wagging. Gizmo needs a home where he will be at peace and not bothered. He has fallen in love with an elderly woman who could not take him and is capapble of doing so again. He needs plenty of patience and time improves his disposition. If anyone can give him a loving home where not much is required of him, he will be very happy.
Adoption Process
If you have questions please ask. Those wanting to adopt may contact myself or the foster home listed. Adoption fees may be negotiable depending on the current care giver, please do not try to force them to lower their price. There are reasons for the fees.
Please be prepared to meet with myself or the caregiver in person about the dog. We understand tragedies and no one can foresee the future so do not be afraid to ask, but think ahead and be sure you can provide the dog with a home in which they can live out their lives.
In some cases it may be necessary to make a few visits before taking a dog in my care. If you have children at home I insist upon meeting them, if possible. Other caregivers may not have the same policy so please be sure to ask them. I know many dogs will adjust better if they are not carted off without getting to know you.
If the dog is one that I have raised I ask you to please be aware of my emotions as these are my babies. I, long ago, made the decision that I cannot possibly keep every dog after they are past the breeding age for reasons of time, space and emotional stress. I have learned I cannot give an aging dog the extra peace, love and calm atmosphere they require when I am caring and stressing over puppies. I love what I do and as much as I love my dogs I want them to be happy.
There is one rule for which there will be NO EXCEPTIONS. Shipping is not an option, under any circumstances, for any dog in my care. Other caregivers I list may feel differently, but this does not change my position.
